FAQs
What happens in the first session?
Our first session is a little different from ongoing therapy sessions. This 60-minute intake gives us time to get to know one another, talk more about what brings you to therapy, and build a fuller picture of what support might be most helpful for you. Before we meet, you’ll complete some intake paperwork, which gives me a starting point for our conversation. During our session, I’ll ask follow-up questions based on what you’ve shared, including questions about your current experiences, history, relationships, and the patterns or concerns you’d like to explore. You don’t need to come in knowing exactly what you need or have clear goals figured out. We can discover those together over time. Most importantly, the first session is a chance for both of us to get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.
How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?
Intake sessions are 60 minutes and follow-up sessions are 45 minutes. Most people start with weekly sessions, and we can adjust frequency over time based on your needs and goals.
What is your availability?
Sessions are typically held Monday through Thursday, 11 am to 4 pm Eastern Time. Flexible scheduling accommodations may be available.
What is virtual therapy like?
Virtual therapy offers flexibility, comfort, and accessibility, and it can feel just as connected and meaningful as in-person work. Sessions are held through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform and can be joined from wherever you feel most comfortable. For the best experience, I encourage you to join from a laptop or computer rather than a phone, and to choose a safe, quiet space where you’re unlikely to be interrupted and can speak freely.
How should I prepare for my sessions?
If you’re able, try to give yourself a few minutes before your session to arrive by silencing notifications, settling into your body, or simply taking a breath. You don’t need an agenda or anything figured out ahead of time. Some people like to jot down a few thoughts or feelings; others prefer to show up as they are. After sessions, it can also be helpful to leave yourself a little time to transition back before returning to the rest of your day.
What if I’m worried about the cost?
That’s a very real concern, and you’re not alone. I offer a limited number of sliding-scale spaces and a discounted student rate. If $30- $70 is within your price range, I encourage you to check out Open Path Collective.
How will I know if therapy is “working”?
Progress in therapy is often subtle and unfolds over time. You might notice feeling more aware of your patterns, responding to yourself with more compassion, or having a little more space between you and your emotions. Sometimes therapy feels uncomfortable before it feels better, and that’s a normal part of growth. We’ll check in regularly about how things are feeling and adjust as needed.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is important. There are a few legal limits to confidentiality (which we’ll review together), but therapy is designed to be a safe, protected space.
How do your identities and values shape your approach to therapy?
As a white, cis, queer, mid-size woman from a non-traditional family of origin, I bring my lived experience alongside my professional training into every session. My work is guided by a commitment to safety, inclusivity, and respect for every part of who you are. I aim to create a space where your identities, experiences, and beliefs are honored, and where you can explore yourself without judgment or pressure.
